Cardiac Accreditation Services Limited (CASL) is a company limited by guarantee and oversees the accreditation of suitably qualified practitioners to perform cardiac procedures including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVr).
CASL was established in 2017 when the Australian Government introduced MBS item numbers for TAVI and assigned responsibility for credentialling TAVI Practitioners to CASL. On 1 July 2021, a new item number for TMVr using the MitraClip™ implant was introduced on the MBS and CASL was assigned responsibility for credentialling practitioners wanting to claim Medicare rebates for the procedure.
The TAVI Accreditation Committee and the Transcatheter Mitral Valve Therapies (TMVT) Committee comprise cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons nominated by the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS), respectively, and assess applications for accreditation and re-accreditation.
